When a head and neck cancer patient is going through radiation therapy, how often should the thyroid be checked?

Thyroid function can decrease following radiation therapy. However, there is usually enough stored thyroid hormone that clinical symptoms do not occur until after radiation therapy. Therefore, in my practice, thyroid function is usually checked at the end of radiation unless symptoms are evident.
