You should expect that your first visit will include a full consultation, review of any outside records, outside lab results or imaging such as ultrasounds or CAT scans done, and a full physical exam including a pelvic and rectovaginal exam. Gathering and organizing your outside records and being prepared to bring any outside imaging is an important part of expediting care and diagnosis. Having a clear up to date list of any medical problems you may have and a detailed list of medications is often very helpful.

The suspicion for ovarian cancer will depend on such things as your age, presenting symptoms, family history, lab work and imaging. Preparing a question list for yourself could be helpful. Helpful questions include: (1) how will the diagnosis be confirmed? (2)The need for surgery and details about the recommended surgical procedure (3) Risks and benefits of recommended treatments. (4) are there any clinical trials or treatments I should know about in relation to my condition.
