Palliative care targets quality of life issues so it is vital, in my opinion. Extending life through better screening to catch cancer in early stages and offering treatment options with improved outcomes is important. But if we do not then also address significant issues survivors face including sleep disturbances, increased anxiety/stress, pain, fatigue, etc. then we are not following a holistic model that treats the person who has a life, not just a disease. We need to begin to demand more services and integrative approaches to resolving quality of life issues and support ongoing wellness post-treatment. I would love to know where to find more information on states stepping up to create change in availability of palliative care.
