Certainly an annual mammogram at the very least. Some doctors will send you for mammograms of the treated breast every six months for a few years, which is also fine. At our practice, we also recommend that breast cancer survivors have annual screening MRI examinations for high-risk surveillance. Who is at higher risk than someone whose body has already created a breast cancer? If your insurance company denies coverage, fight with them! It amazes me that insurers will cover an MRI for a breast cancer survivor’s daughter or mother or sister, but not for the survivor herself. Whatever happened to “common-sense-based” medicine?
