I have to admit, this is the first I've heard of Ms. Mitchell's diagnosis because, believe it or not, after my diagnosis, I made a conscious decision not to watch the news any more. Television news is one of the most negative things on TV these days and I am no longer into anything that can upset me.

With that said, I have to say that I have a hard time commenting on or criticizing her. I know I always felt if I could help someone because of my own situation, I wanted to. On the other hand, it is a hard line to cross as a journalist because of my belief that a journalist has to remain neutral. In the past 20 years, that has, unfortunately, taken a back seat to editorial journalism in which most news people now feel it is okay to add their own opinions to a story.

I have to believe that she is trying to help and I also have to believe that because she is newly diagnosed, she is only passing along information that has been given to her because she has not or cannot adequately process what she is going through.

In any case, I wish her the best and a speedy and happy ending to her journey with cancer.
