JKJones     I had a blood draw this morning and I was sooo... dehydrated they could hardly find a vein and extract a small amount of blood. It was a tough reminder that I needed to drink more than the 8x8 glasses of water a day. You are not struggling alone. Thank you for sharing.

JKJones     Thank you. It is important we reach doctors to help them listen to us, respect us, and not treat us as just a breast or disease, but as a whole person. Thanks again.

JKJones     I am going to take your tips about creativity and employ them on my blog. My writing went by the wayside as I was doing my scientific training. Once I had a boss that called me Mrs. C because I would explain topic A then conclude with C and I thought everyone should understand how I arrived at C without explaining B. Surprisingly he understood B and thankfully the conclusion C. Thank you so much.

member551     Hi! Would love some advice from a pharmacist! Are you knowledgeable on the subject of allergic reactions to adhesives on bandaids...? Also, why can't I scratch an itch?
2 years ago  |  1 Reply
JKJones     A common symptom of a mild allergic reaction is itching and rash. The treatment of allergic reactions depend on the severity. Allergic reactions can be mild and only effect a small area of the body, or can be severe and result in anaphylactic shock. Allergic reactions may happen right away or be delayed. The offending toxins (in this case bandaids) should be avoided in the future.
- Do your best to avoid scratching and itching.
- Don’t rub your skin.
- Shower in lukewarm water with a mild soap and pat dry.
- Wear loose clothes.
- Wash with a mild soap that contains no perfumes to reduce irritation.
- Protect your skin with clothing and sunscreen when outdoors.
- Stop using deodorants, body lotions, powders, body oils, and creams with perfumes as well as perfumes.

Potential treatment options are:
- Hydrocortisone cream
- Anti-itch cream (diphenhydramine - benadryl) may be purchased over the counter.
- Oral antihistamines such as diphenhyramine may be purchased over the counter as well.
- Or your physician may prescribe a stronger steroid cream to alleviate itching.

It is important not to scratch and cause an open wound on the skin as this may lead to infection.
